I have two grown children and three grand sons and my home is ruled by Lady.

I am writing my first non- fiction book.  It has been percolating within me for the better part of thirty years.  It is a joy watching the birthing process of words appearing on the screen now that its time has finally arrived!  My prayer is that it will help many people upon its release.

I was injured almost five years ago and that caused me to leave a job I loved working with HIV+ clients and their needs.  However, the gift of these years of surgeries and recuperation has been the time for the book idea to solidify.   I have learned patience and the gift of receiving as well as giving during this time as well.  I have been well entertained by the wild turkeys, deer and rabbits who visit my yard daily.

I have just completed my first children's book and am looking for an illustrator.  This is a project that is very close to my heart and will be a joy to publish!  I've also started work on a novel as well as continuing to write poetry when the mood strikes.

A new roomate has entered my life and it was love at first sight.  I never expected it, but as we all know, these things happen when we least expect them.  I'm now buying special food and going out at 2 in the morning (and liking it!) and sharing my bed again after many years.  I surprised myself when I fell so quickly for her.  I never thought I would do that  and coupled with the fact that she is 16 and a half, well, I'm in shock.  Lady is no tramp.  She's an intelligent, loving Pomeranian Mix who needed a new home because her previous owner developed Alzheimer's and went into a nursing home.  She is a very loved and happy addition to my household who makes friends wherever we go.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

I listened too much to my Mom who unfortunately admitted to me on her deathbed that she didn't have my best interests at heart.  I didn't trust my own intuitions soon enough but still feel that everything I have done and lived through has been for a greater purpose and I wouldn't change a thing for it has brought me to today where I am happy with who I am and proud of how I got here.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I feel freer to be myself.  I don't have to answer to anyone at the moment and it has been enlightening.  I've rediscovered creativity.  I don't feel as though I have to sublimate myself to find approval.  I have learned how to have fun!  I have built a family that is filled with love and appreciation of each other.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself writing more and doing more quilting and open to the possibility of remarriage and living in another country.

Trust your instincts.  You'll learn that they are good.  Your kindness is a strength and you will come to realize it even though others try to convince you it is a weakness.  Your strong faith and sunshine smile will see you through the inevitable bumps along the road.  Keep love in your heart and laughter in your life at all times and you will not only survive, you will thrive!
