JustcallmeJudy

My mother beat me every day, all the other kids made fun of me, my father told me I was fat and would never be as pretty as my mother, and she said I got my ugly Irish snaggleteeth from his side of the family!  I was a wallflower in high school and the original two years of college before I dropped out.  I then married a man who beat me until he died and lost my dear only child, a son, at 17 in a car accident.  After my mother and husband passed, I graduated from broadcasting school, and earned 56 credits in every area of journalism and broadcasting and got my AA with Honors in Communications and Media Arts.  I've written for five small newspapers, had two books published at small web venues, and jocked at two radio stations.  In the main, I've spent my life as an activist, stumping for women, the poverty community, and race issues.  My dear boyfriend of 18 years is African American.  My life has made me thick-skinned enough to throw back what I get from racists! I'm a Christian and have spent years studying spiritual warfare because, guess what?  Wounded people get attacked!

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

Right now, I'm not anywhere but hope to be!  I'm home on SSD, part of the Ticket to Work program, hoping to find the employment the Lord has for me here.  We moved from NY to VA two years ago.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I accept myself more.  I acknowledge my strong points and pat myself on the head for them!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Still kvetching, still bitching, still being an activist!  I hope I become gainfully employed and am still in that employment at 68.

a postcard to my younger self

Do not give up free nookie to anybody!  If he doesn't make your knees knock together, don't sleep with him!  Do it for you, not for him!  BTW, look around for a chubby soul singer named Jessie and meet him 20 years earlier than you did!  If you see a tall, handsome dude ranch employee who looks like your childhood lust object, Burt Lancaster, run like hell!

my role models

Eleanor Roosevelt, Dr. Margaret Mead, Barbara Walters.
