How did you get to where you are now?

Circuitously, with heavy doses of riotous laughter and an iron-clad will to soldier through the fragility of single-motherhood. After years of making ends meet with a smile on my face for my kids' sakes, I'm loving the freedom and beauty of this time of life.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

Ten years ago I was more angst-ridden, fatter, and worry driven. Today, I can appreciate that none of that works very well for a person :) That’s not to say I don’t “tip into” the old habits now and again.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself being even happier, even more content than I am today. That’s a bit hard to imagine — I’m very lucky and have worked hard to craft a life that is satisfying and evolving.

But stagnation isn’t my game – so I hope I’m still an evolving “work-in-progress” — 10, 20, 40 years from now!

Your kids turn out grand. Don't worry, someday you will indeed talk about good books, rather than good grades. Be able to check out a man's butt and comment on it without feeling like Mommie Dearest gone porno. And most of all, your life will be full of intellectual adventure!

Gilda Radner (perhaps one of the most brilliant comedians of all time), Flannery O’Connor, Dorothy Parker, Anton Chekhov, Leo Tolstoy, Raymond Carver, Barbara Kingsolver, Frank McCourt, David Sedaris, and both Thelma and Louise.
