My Blog Circle:

I grew up in New Jersey with the American Dream – meaning that you can be anything you want to be as long as you work hard.  I have recently read Strengthsfinder 2.0 which totally busts that myth.  They say that people should work on their strengths, and if you put as much effort into doing that instead of working too hard on the stuff you aren’t good at, just think how much better off you could be.  Forget about all the time you could have saved if you knew that before!

I lived and worked in New York City before I moved to London (via L.A.) over 20 years ago.  I had married an Englishman, and once we had started our family he thought it would be a good idea to move to London.  London has been my home for  over 20 years.  I have three children.  They are pretty much all grown up now.

My life is one of ongoing change.  It keeps me from being bored.  I have a wide variety of interests to keep me occupied.  My current passions are dancing Argentine Tango, scuba diving and writing.

There is something about the sea that calls to me and whenever I can I try to have a beach holiday.  This time around, instead of just lying on the beach, I go diving or snorkeling somewhere warm and interesting.

I finally sold my house in London.  After living in London for over 20 years, I have moved down to Eastbourne.  Eastbourne is along the East Sussex coast.  I love it here.  I have just found the perfect house.  I am changing my life completely and starting over again.  How’s that for a new beginning?  This time, I have the beach/seafront at my disposal whenever I want it.  I thought of changing the name of my blog to Arlene’s Eastbourne Adventures, but I didn’t want to limit myself to one place.  Who knows what will happen or where I will be going next?

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

The hard way!  Better late than never.  In spite of any heartache and bad decision making, I have also had a lot of love and joy in my life and have also made some very good decisions.  Having a sense of humour also helps.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I feel more free and confident.  I have grown as a person and like myself more and that is because I finally know who I am and I am ok with it.  I am actually very happy.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Still smiling and living in the sunshine!

a postcard to my younger self

Dear Arlene,

Life is going to throw you many challenges and it may be difficult to successfully deal with all of them.  Don't worry.  Do the best you can with the best intentions.

Dance. Dance. Dance.

Don't let anyone or anything stop you from going after your dreams.  With a bit of tenacity, focus, and positive thinking you will get there.

Learn to expect the unnexpected.  Great things happen in ways you could never imagine.

You can do anything you want to do, and you can be anything you want to be.  Don't forget that you may meet people that can help you along the way, so be nice.

Enjoy yourself!

With lots of love from your older and hopefully wiser self. xxx

my role models

I don't have any particular role models.

Every person I have come across has had some influence in my life in either a positive or negative way and I have learned something from each and every one of them.

I am particularly drawn towards people with a positive, can-do attitude to life.

Finishing The Job

I recently completed a two-day seminar on Leadership and Management.  It seems that one of my skills is that of a Finisher.  Basically, that means I like to pay close attention to detail and can be counted on to get a job done.

Sounds

I love going to the beach or seafront, or walking along the promenade.  I find it really relaxing and almost a form of meditation.

Buying Art

Artwork can be very representative of what you may want to attract in your life, so paintings of single figures were a no-no when I wanted a relationship.

The daily temperature reading (A basic form of communication)

The temperature reading is a nourishing way of keeping each other informed. Low self-esteem may at times cause you to feel less inclined to do it and less likely to take the risk of being honest with your partner. Sometimes we fear being rejected, or we feel so upset that we don’t want to share our thoughts with our partner.

Too much information

I know what they are doing, but I really don’t want to know, and especially not the details, thank you very much.  I have way too much information and the imagery is far too much for me sometimes.
