My Blog Circle:

I am a midlife woman in full pursuit of everything I find meaningful and worthwhile - joy/happiness/pleasure (they are not the same thing!), love and connection, health and balance, achievement, accomplishment and success, and fun!

Since escaping a 20 year public service management career in early 2002, I built a successful executive coaching and leadership consulting business (Recalibrate.com).  I have been very effective at challenging and supporting hundreds of clients to create and sustain positive change, and to make their lives and workplaces work better.

I have been divorced, but happily remarried to my second husband since 1991.  I am a stepmother to two now-grown daughters (I helped support and raise them from when they were 8 and 12) and became a stepgrandmother ("Nana") in January 2010.

I've always been intrigued by the parlour game of trying to sum up your life experiences in 10 words.  This is how I answer:  "Hellacious parents, dragged hither and yon, anxiety ridden over achiever."  These 10 words, and much more, are expanded upon and explored in my blog "The Burning Woman."

I currently divide my time living on two islands on the West Coast of Canada, and in a Mexican beachtown.  I read, I write, I drink red wine and watch the ocean.  Todo bien, amigas (It's all good, girlfriends).

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

I got to where I am now through radical self reliance and self expression!

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I care less now about what other people think of me, and whether or not they approve of me, or find what I think and feel to be acceptable.  I see myself as capable of more influence and beneficial power now.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I willl be a published author, continuing to live life on her own terms.

Stop worrying!  And learn to say "no"!

my role models

Anyone who knows themselves and what they want, who lives in alignment with that knowledge and who realizes their full potential as a result.

Back to Reality

The threat of the nursing home looms large, because none of us knows what our future holds. It's SO important to enjoy the here and now, and whatever health, youth and vitality we have. Memories may have to sustain us through a lot in the future, and I am well armed!

Remembering Japan

One thing I know - from my brief time in the part of Japan now devastated by an earthquake and tsunami - these are definitely people who will survive and overcome what has befallen them. My heart goes out to them as they face what has happened and what comes next.

The Real Star of the 83rd Oscars

Viewing the Academy Awards is a nauseating exercise in watching Hollywood drink its own bathwater.  But one unlikely star far outshone the Hollywood elite at the 83rd annual Oscars.
