my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

It's taken years of trial and error. I always loved acting and directing and majored in theater in college. I directed, acted and taught for years in Florida and after seeing all my friends move to Los Angeles, I decided to take the risk, sold everything and followed my dream to work in Hollywood. That was in 1988. Within three years I was working at a talent agency.  Several years later I was the V.P. of television at that agency.  After 15 years in that business, I decided to "slow down" and I started teaching film at Biola University.  My husband and I took several of my clients and continue to manage their careers as novelists and screenwriters. In the past couple of years I have since become partners in a film company Amaris Media International and we have numerous projects in various stages of development and production.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I am much less fearful and concerned about what others may think about me now. One of the great things about getting older is that I am no longer worried about what may or may not happen.  I have pretty much experienced all the ups and downs that life can throw at me, and survived them.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I don't plan on stopping or retiring... hopefully ever. As long as I am healthy I plan to continue to make films, write, meet people, travel and just generally enjoy every moment of my life!!

A Hollywood Agent’s Advice: How to Stay Motivated

Some days the dream is fresh and exciting and everything seems to be falling into place and then there are those other days... The days when it’s everything you can do to get up.  Putting on your shoes feels like a chore.  A sense of dread comes over you.  All the phone calls that need to be made. Or meetings to set. Or blogs to write. The people who need an answer from you.  Or the family that needs more of your time.  read more »

Fishing in Hollywood: Keeping the Dream Going

If you have a BIG DREAM whatever it is... maybe to make movies, or save the world through important documentaries or to write the million dollar screenplay, it is always seems easy at first. The dreaming part is really fun - imagining yourself receiving the Oscar, or riding in the Rolls, or directing Tom Hanks. But once you start down the road of making that dream come true - reality hits. It's going to take work.  Probably a lot of work.

Hollywood Networking No No’s

n an article I wrote for HubPages on Schmoozing, I listed some of the positive steps a newcomer to the entertainment business can try to take to improve their networking skills.   This article will focus on a few of the No No’s.  My experience as an agent in Hollywood since 1991 has given me ample time to discover (the hard way) all the little things that people in the biz find irritating. Obviously this list may not apply to everyone that is in a position of power and not everyone will necessarily agree with me.  Perhaps, the best thing to do is look at this list as a group of suggestions from one who has been there.

Fishing in Hollywood: The Big Dream

Lights, action, glamour, money!  The Hollywood dream.  Perhaps since you were a child you have watched the beautiful and the rich walk down red carpets with the flashing lights of photographers and the surge of adoring crowds screaming for a moment's glance.  Our world loves celebrities.  Their expensive clothes, cool cars, gorgeous homes.  And then there are the movies.  Exciting car chases,  perfect romances, happy endings.  It's hard not to be enthralled by everything that Hollywood represents.

Peg: Hi God. I am having a hard day.
God: I can see that. Why are you feeling like this?
Peg: Because I am old and tired and summer is slipping away.
