I'm a women who enjoys intellectual pursuits along with having great fun, usually on the dance floor - Zydeco, Cajun, Waltz, Swing, Contra, American Tango, almost any form of social dancing. Professionally I have a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality, Masters Degree in Public Health, Board Certified Sexologist, Human Sexuality Consultant/Educator, Clinical Sexologist and Ageless Sex Life advocate. Bottom line, I answer all the questions women are too embarrassed or have no time to ask their physicain/gyn or therapist. I developed the program Ageless Sex Life basically for the baby boomers, but it is for adults of all ages. I also founded the Erotic Literary Salon to mainstream erotica. Originally it was created to help women overcome shame, but now has mainstreamed to wonderful entertainment. Women and men share their first person and fictional personal writings. My personal website has all the information and a larger bio, along with a link to my adult site. I blog daily about important news relating to sexuality, all with a positive spin. BTW my 95 year old chosen mom reads at the Salon, her readings are based on her intimate experiences. www.SusanaMayer.com

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

A spiritual experience brought on by an acute case of hepatitis A changed my life in 2000. I was put on the path to have a Ph.D. by time I was sixty - 2008 (received it in 2009), but first I had to finish my B.A. I never questioned this direction, if I had I probably would not have finished. Dissertations are not for the meek. I created the Ageless Sex Life philosophy/program because of the years of frustration with the medical community and pain I experienced during sex. The philosophy of the Ageless Sex Life™ – to produce no emotional disappointment or physical harm while creating sexual pleasure. Presently producing an ebook series on this work, the first one will focus on women's low libidos.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

Just before my bout with hepatitis A I had no direction in terms of what I wanted to do in my life. I was also in a relationship that was suffering because of my severe pain during sex and not finding help in the medical community. I was searching for something and frankly didn't even know what it was. Today I feel like I have achieved an academic standing I needed to bolster my poor self esteem. It worked. The confidence I feel when helping women with various sexuality issues makes my pride smile.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

For the first time in my life I'm not thinking that far ahead. I never allowed myself to live in the moment, this is a new experience for me. I can honestly say I have no idea where I'll be in ten years. Hopefully, wherever and with whom I'll be dancing and having a smile on my face.

a postcard to my younger self

Please get rid of your stubbornness, allow people to help you, get over your fear of criticism and have faith in life and yourself. Believe me, had I done this earlier in my life I would have found my true calling years ago. I now feel better late than never, but oh it would have been nice to have had more years to go in this state of mind.

my role models

Frances, my chosen mom, present roommate (5 months out of the year) and best friend was born in 1917. She is teaching me how to age gracefully. A retired family therapist, still volunteers with young school children, creates wonderful pottery, paintings, has a boyfriend 2 years older, plus she is always smiling. Living in the moment, dealing with life's adversities quickly, finding the silver lining in absolutely everything, and not only being open to change, but seeking change. This is what keeps her spirit young.
