Matriarch

Life is good since I hit my 50's.  I will be 55 this year, and am back in school to persue my doctorate in Naturopathy.  I own my own massage therapy clinic, and work in that six days a week.  I have two grown children, one in Boston, the other only 15 minutes away.  I have lived in Michigan all my life.  I love camping, hiking, walking, reading, knitting, and volunteering.  I have mentored at least 30 young people, and enjoy that very much.  I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 37 years this year.  He is a wonderful, hardworking man, and my touchstone in this life.  He is my opposite, and we balance each other.  I have 3 pets a Cockatoo named Phred, a Beagle named Maggie, and a Cockatiel named Carlos.  We are a happy family.  I guess that's all....foks.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

Hard work, and a belief that I can reach any goal if I can see it in my mind.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

Ten years ago, I never thought I would be going back to school to be a Dr.  I was a nurse almost all my life.  I never thought the road would lead this way, but it has and I see that everything I have done is working toward this goal.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In Ten years?  In ten years I see myself in a small town, with my shingle out.  I will be the old country dr. that treats without drugs, grows herbs in the back, and charges nominal fees, or barters for her pay.  I will deliver babies, and watch them grow to adults, helping them by educating them to support their bodies rather than treat symptoms.  My husband and I will have a huge organic garden, and live in the mountains so I can see a lot of wildlife.  I hope to have grandchildren by then.  I will still camp, hike and bike.

a postcard to my younger self

Hey girl, you are awesome, realize that and reach out more.  Don't let that depression and negativity get in your head, and learn to be thankful for everything.  Love your family first, then add others.  But above all turn off those nasty negative tapes in your head, and replace them with the loving words you reserve for others.

my role models

Mother Teresa was my role model, as was Ghandi, and Jesus.  Closer to home my mother, dad, mother in law, and father in law.  They loved their families, they supported them, and lived an honerable life.  They are my heros.  But most of all is my husband. He is honorable, honest, hard working and loves me above all.  I wish I could be half of what he is.

I will not feel guilty

I read a post in Vn almost deriding people that have a little cushion to spend on themselves.  I understand many people are in dire straights.  But I refuse to feel guilty,…
