Cynthia Carlisi

I'm from Arizona (since fifth grade), and I was born in 1958. I've raised two daughters on my own and I run my own personal freedom and wellness business, teaching yoga, doing massage and nutrition consulting. I've written an adventure memoir, and am creating more adventure to write about! Surfing Mexican waves, Grand Canyon whitewater rafting, multi-pitch rock-climbing and now horseback!!!! I'm sewing my second daughter's wedding dress in my spare time, and finding new ways to network on the internet. I love learning. Current science is a favorite subject. I've been single since 1991 and its great. With friend and support groups and sometimes interesting fun-loving companionshipppp! I can do without television and bars, prefer to be outdoors in this pretty country south of Tucson.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

When my husband didn't want to be married anymore, I didn't want to be in the city anymore so I got the girls into the car and went to Patagonia since one of our yoga students had moved there. The girls grew up, moved out and I'm still here! Its too lovely to leave and all the time I get to spend horseback is priceless, along with the friendships built over years.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

Well, ten years ago I wasn't such an outspoken author nor a cowgirl of much worth. I've addressed personally experienced issues of childhood sexual abuse, abortion, violence, and challenging extreme fear in my writing. Now I move with a horse over rugged terrain working cattle, respected by my trail boss, and I never dreamed I'd have accomplished these things ten years ago! Now I laugh more than I ever did.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In ten years I'll be spending time with my grandchildren! I will have written more books and done some public speaking about surviving incest and thriving beyond family atrocities. I'll still play outdoors... perhaps I'll be flying airplanes. I'll still be learning, teaching and writing.

a postcard to my younger self

What fun you had then, thank you for the great stories and for always getting up from defeat and going forward into more Grand advenures. Your sadness and pain fill my heart with compassion, your courage constantly amazes me. I'm proud of you and I love you.
