I am 63 and I have lived in the Canadian north since 1970
I learned many things I would never had a chance to try if I stayed in Montreal. I learned to cut hair, I learned to cook and bake absolutely everything (no restaurants). I learned to sew; I even learned how to climb a power pole.
I learned how to canoe and I learned how to appreciate the diversity amongst people. I was already an artist sculpture and painting in acrylic but managed to learn pottery at 40.
This was more involved than I believed I was capable of doing. Working on a wheel and making molds. Chemical compounds, minute calculation, understanding how to raise temperature for special glaze effects etc.
I stopped 4 years ago and now I am interested in learning how to write.
