I strive to help others discover solutions to live life to the fullest – everyday!
Sharing good ole practical advice with one another goes a long way to lessen fears and heighten courage. Since I zoomed past fifty, (where did it go) I find a lot of women talking about their difficulties achieving everyday tasks. Their bodies are changing and abilities as well. Now, this is something I know of well, seeing as I have lived with a progressive neuromuscular disease all my life, so I decided to share what I’ve learned and make aging solving gadgets available on line, hence boomazoo was born.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

My goodness this is a loaded question, but as it happens I have a book soon to be published about myself and experiences during my younger years. I expect it will be available in May. I will say it is a difficult book in that it is a memoir of disability and abuse. Not a topic one would find on the discussion blog but nonetheless there it is.
It did not take me long once I started working in the business world to see that my disability would hold me back, so I decided to study and become a social worker and advocate for those with disabilities. It was about the only vocation where my disability could be viewed as an asset. For the most part it worked; my career has been rewarding and varied.
I have authored seven books but really only two of interest to the general public. A children’s novel, Aunt Scarlett’s Farm, about disability and bullying and the soon to be released, Shadows on the Ceiling: a memoir of disability and abuse.
In the end both are inspirational (so I am told).

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I haven’t changed much from being a fiercely independent person, although somewhat less able due to the progression of my disability. Friends are important and stimulating, my brother is the rock I call family.
However I did after turning fifty enter into a relationship that has brought a comfortable feeling of love and all the challenges that goes along with that experience. Transforming from me to the world of we has been and continues to bring daily lessons.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Generally I don’t think that far ahead. If I do then I feel I am missing some juicy moments. The now is what matters to me; these days I feel vibrant so that’s where I like my thoughts to stay.

It will get better; in time your life will go from black and white to vivid colour!

my role models

A beautiful mother who left this life far too soon.
Martin Luther King Jr., because he had a vision that was clear enough for me even as a young white girl with a disability to grasp. Many others who fortunately continue to walk this earth.
