About the Author & Artist. Arlene Wright-Correll (1935- ___), popular American award winning Artist, published author, columnist, & art instructor, at the age of 68, decided to pick up her paint brushes again after 54 years and paint, in mostly gouache watercolors and pastels, the flowers, herbs and fruits that grow at Home Farm Herbery in Munfordville, KY. Though she paints in all mediums, she likes to use the Gouache paints, which are a heavy, opaque watercolor paint, sometimes called body color, producing a less wet-appearing and more strongly colored picture than ordinary watercolor.  Occasionally, she will paint something from her world travels especially of Scotland, Ireland, or the Mediterranean. She is fond of those old memories. She is the resident artist and workshop instructor at AvalonStainedGlassSchool. She is a Certified EBSQ artist.  Ms. Wright-Correll is the creator and writer of Who’s Who in Arts and Crafts©, author of numerous published books, over 300 published articles, winner of many organic gardening writing contests and a member of KAHT.  She is also a China & Porcelain painter, Stained Glass Artisan, Sandblasting and glass etching artist, works in Fused Glass and Encaustic Art. She is one of the six KY Artists who worked 6 months to create the dolls for Journey Jots in 2006.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

By working fairly and very hard. By knowing what I wanted to do, knowing what it would cost and by being ready to pay the price.  By getting up early and staying late.  By being creative, resourceful and reliable. By constant learning and sharing what I know.  Please check out my How to books and down loads at this link.  or my over 300 published articles by clicking here.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

Older, wiser, slower, mellower, fatter, still knowing that each day I wake up is a great day to still be above ground!  I never thought, at this stage of the game, I would be opening an "art colony" hostel for teaching creative arts to people who want a learning vacation.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

At 74 gong on 75 years old, I would like to think that I will still be going strong as the resident artist at Avalon Stained Glass School in Munfordville, KY sharing my time with my best guy Carl Correll and still writing, creating art and teaching the workshops to other women who want to continue learning and who want to discover their unhidden talents.

At 77 I have brought my Home Farm Herbery into the main stream and my Artisan Bread Baking business and Heirloom Seed business where all my net proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

a postcard to my younger self

Did I know that taking all those "roads less traveled" that I would be where I am today?  No!, but I am glad I did.  I am glad to be the mother of my children and life mate of Carl. I am glad to have experienced the hardship, the ups and downs, the sad and glads which is what strength and growth is really all about.  I am glad for all the friends I have made along the way and even for the few enemies as we all acquire them whether we want to admit it or not.

my role models

Ayn Rand, Katharine Hepburn, Ruth Gordon, my grandmother!

How to Make Homemade Breakfast Sausage

It is really very easy to make your own homemade breakfast sausage, 2pecially if you are worried about commercially-made sausage fearing not only fat content, but what odds and ends manufacturers dump into the mix you are rightfully so. By making your own sausage at home, you can ensure only the best ingredients and spices are used, plus control the fat content. Do not make the mistake of thinking sausage is strictly a meat product. Many sausage recipes also include seafood and vegetarian sausage blends.read more »

Everything You Wanted to Know About Summer Savory and Then Some

Summer Savory is better known than its cousin Winter Savory and it is an annual, but similar in use and flavor to the perennial winter savory. It is used more often than winter savory, as winter savory is thought to have a slightly bitterer flavor. Summer savory is preferred over winter savory for use in sausages because of the sweeter, more delicate aroma. A member of the mint family of herbs, summer savory originates in southern Europe and has been used in food preparation for over 2,000 years.read more »
